Preventing and investigating crime. The police prevent crime, intervene and investigate what happened. They also cooperate with bodies such as municipalities and other authorities.

What does it mean when a prosecutor brings charges?
Asking the court to examine the criminal charge. The prosecutor assesses whether the evidence is sufficient to bring charges. The charges bring the case before a court, which decides whether the person should be convicted.
Tingsrätten (district court). The district court is the usual first instance for criminal and civil cases. An appeal proceeds under the rules for higher courts.
How must a person charged with a crime be regarded before guilt has been proved according to law?
As innocent as long as guilt has not been proved. The presumption of innocence protects the accused. Suspicion or prosecution is not enough to treat the person as guilty.
