The authority mainly attributes the reduction to added security checks and processing steps. The citizenship rules introduced on 6 June 2026 cannot explain a total for the previous calendar year.
Read the right measure
Applications received, decisions made and citizenships granted measure different things. The nationality of successful applicants is also different from country of birth among Sweden’s residents. Do not use either as a count of people waiting.
