A statistic cannot predict your decision

Migrationsverket’s waiting-time service describes recently decided cases. It is not a deadline or a place in a first-in, first-out queue. Check the current citizenship category rather than budgeting around an old 28–56 month range.

Keep the case ready to decide

Read messages in Min sida, keep your contact details current and respond to document requests within the stated time. Identity checks, evidence requests and checks with other authorities can affect processing. A long wait alone does not establish why your case is delayed.

Requesting a decision after six months

If your case has not been decided within six months, you may make one written request for a decision during that case. Under section 12 of the Administrative Procedure Act, the authority must within four weeks either decide the case or reject the request in a separate decision. This does not promise approval of citizenship.

Use Migrationsverket’s current form and the submission instructions for your case. Include your name, case number and contact details. Keep a copy and proof of submission. If the request is refused, follow the appeal instructions in that decision.

The rules while you wait

The citizenship changes that took effect on 6 June 2026 also apply to earlier applications that were not decided before that date. An old submission date does not preserve the former five-year main residence rule. Read the requirements guide.
