Swedish citizenship fees: plan the costs
Application fees, the civics test and exemptions, kept separate. A calculator for the published amounts, checked in October 2026.

| Application fees | 2,900 kr |
|---|---|
| Civics test fees | 0 kr |
Enter only applications and sittings that require payment. The test fee is 0 kr in 2026 and 2,000 kr per sitting from 2027. Exempt applications and sittings should be excluded. Language tests, travel, passports and optional study products are not included.
Application fees
An adult citizenship application costs 2,900 kr. A separate application for someone under 18 costs 475 kr. Since 6 June 2026 children apply separately through their guardians. An unsuccessful application is not refunded.
Nordic notification is a different route, with a 475 kr fee. Nordic citizenship does not automatically mean that notification is the right procedure. Check its residence and other conditions first.
Civics test fee
The test-fee provision first applies to sittings held in 2027: 2,000 kr paid to UHR for each sitting. Sittings held in 2026 are free. This amount comes from section 6 and the transitional provision of SFS 2026:451; UHR’s information page still says fee details will follow.
Do not add an assumed language-test fee to an official total. No bookable Swedish-language sitting or separate operational fee has been established in the checked UHR information.
Fee exemptions
The test-fee exemption covers a stateless person granted refugee status or a travel document by a Swedish authority. Migrationsverket also lists exemptions from the application fee for stateless refugees. Confirm the documentation and the relevant fee separately. An age exemption from a knowledge requirement is not a general application-fee exemption.
A budget is not a decision timeline
For one fee-paying adult and one paid civics sitting in 2027, the published components total 4,900 kr. This is a worked example, not a prediction that you need a test. Official Sverige i fokus study material is free. Optional practice products, travel, passport and other costs are outside the calculator.
Read the processing-time guide before planning around an application. Paying a fee does not reserve a decision date.
